What’s Your Jericho?

What is your Jericho? The city of Jericho was guaranteed to Joshua and the Israelites by God, even though it was inhabited by “Mighty Men”.

What did he have to do to acquire the city?

  1. Have faith in the word of God.

He had to believe the Lord when He said that they would conquer the city.  Looking at the city and its walls made this difficult to do, but looking past the natural obstacles, he could see the victory was already theirs.

2 Act on the word of God.

God told him to march around the city once a day for six days, have the priests blow their trumpets.  Each day this happened, the strength and fortitude of the enemy was shaken.  They were aware that God was with His chosen people, and they were trembling by the end of the 6th day.

3 Persistence in the word.

Even though they may not be seeing a change in the walls or in the city, they kept marching once a day just as they were told to do.

4 Receive your blessing

On the seventh day, they were to march around the city 7 times.  When they did, all the walls came tumbling down leaving he inhabitants of the city completely exposed and defenseless against the invasion by God’s chosen people Israel.

Who survived the attack?  Only Rahab and her household.

Why?!  Because she turned to God and “repented” from her people and her way of life.  She stepped out in faith that if she helped the army of Israel accomplish their mission, she and her family would be saved.

What does this mean in our lives today?  There will always be “strongholds” and obstacles that are placed in front of, or around your blessing by the enemy.  He wants you to see this obstacle as insurmountable so that you will give up and not receive it.  But it already belongs to you, you just have to claim it.

That city of Jericho looked like a fortress, but Joshua was unphased.  His faith was unshaken!  He knew who he was…God’s chosen.
